The Third Seoul International Competition for Composers

  Seoul international competition for Composers is a creative global music competition held by
The Korean Society of the 21st Century Music. The purpose of this competition is to provide an
opportunity of musical exchange for composers of various ages from all over the world.
This will be an introduction of unique and progressive music composed by active international
composers. It is also hoped by the society, during the colloquium, which will include composition
workshops of the finalists, the finalists, that there will be an opportunity for the audience to heighten
their interest and understanding of contemporary music.


INSTRUMENTATION  REQUIREMENT :

CHAMBER MUSIC FOR THREE TO FIVE PLAYERS


Competing compositions are to be written for the
any combination of the following instruments:

: picc., fl., ob., cla., bsn., hrn., trp., trb.,tba.,vln., vla., vc., cb.,

pf., Alto fl., English Horn, Bass cla.

 Duration; max.15 min.
¡¡


ELIGIBILITY OF PARTICIPATION

Open to all composers regardless of any age, nationality, race and sex.

Two category conditions are given ;

  A) Young Composers : twenty-nine years and  younger (Born after 1975. 4.1)

  B) Composers : thirty years and older (Born before 1975. 4.1)


PRIZE

¡á The Grand Prix winner is selected from the two division of the 1st prize winner.

   A Grand Prix winner can not be awarded 1st prize.

  A)  Grand Prix: \5,000,000 (Korean Money)

  B)  Young Composers Division

      1st Prize : \3,000,000 (Korean Money)

      2nd Prize : \1,500,000 (Korean Money)

  C)  Other Composers Division

      1st prize : \4,000,000(Korean Money)

      2nd prize : \2,000,000(Korean Money)

 
¡á Performance Prize : A winning performer with an exceptionally extravagant performance
during the final. (A supplementary prize will be awarded.)

¡á Audience Prize : A winning piece will be selected from each category by the audience,
during
 the final performance. (A supplementary prize will be awarded.)
 
DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING ENTRIES: AUGUST 31st, 2004 (Postmark)

All materials should be sent by air-mail to the Secretariat of the Competition ;

¡á Colloquium I : March, 2005 (for young composers)

 Colloquium II : March, 2005  (for composers 
¡á
 Final : March, 2005 (for Young Composers, and  Other Composers)
 
ENTRY PROCEDURE
 
¡á Composition Specification;
  A) Works composed sfter April 1,2003 are eligible for submission
  B) Only one submission per composer can be accepted.
  C) Works should not be published, commissioned, or awarded.
  D) It is prohibited to summit works at the same  time to other competition.
  E) The society will hold the copyright of the winning pieces, for two years.
 
¡á Submission Requirements
  A) Application form 
  B) A recent photo of the composer
  C) Short biography of the composer in English. (approximately 200 words.)
  D) 3 copies of the score (Please do not write the name of composer)
  E) A recording of the work (if available cassette tape or CD)
  F) Programme notes of the submitted work in English (approximately 200 words.)
 
JURY PROCEDURE
 
¡á After 2 preliminary screening the winner will be selected by performance at final.
¡á Juries for this competition are highly acclaimed international composers.
¡á The winning composition will be performed at the festival MUSIC TODAY, SEOUL 2005.

Anyone wishes to have his or her score returned should enclose self-addressed,  pre-stamped   envelope.
