작곡가
김주풍(1958년, 서울출생)은 성남고등학교를 졸업 후, 한양대학교 음대 작곡과를
졸업하고 동 대학원 작곡이론과를 졸업, 1990년 첫 번째 석사학위를 취득하였으며,
동년 미국으로 유학, University of Missouri Kansas-City
(UMKC) 대학원에서 작곡, 전자음악 전공으로 두 번째 석사학위 (M.M.)을
취득 후, 1998년 12월, 동 대학원에서 음악작곡 박사학위(D.M.A.)를
취득하였다. 유학 시, Dr. Gerald Kemner, Dr. James Mobberley,
Dr. Paul Ruddy와 함께 공부하였다.
김
박사는 박사논문 작품 "관현악을 위한 '기(旗)의 예찬(禮讚)' [Rally
'Round The Flag]으로 1998년도 UMKC에서 수여하는 최우수작품상을
수상하였고, 동시에 이 작품은 제1회 한민족창작음악제에서 선정 발표된 바가 있다.
아울러, 2000년, 두 번째 관현악을 위한 작품 '두물머리' 역시 제3회 한민족창작음악제에서
선정 발표되었다. 1999년 귀국 후, 국내 유수 작곡악회를 통해 전자음악을 포함한
다양한 작품 연주활동을 하고 있으며, 특히, 그가 추구하는 '형상음악 (Configuration
Music)'의 정립을 위한 작품 연구에 심혈을 기울이고 있다.
2001년,
전자음악그룹 트로이-카[TROI-Ca]를 조직하여 멤버로서, 작곡악회 비젼-씨[Vision-C]
회장으로서 새로운 현대음악 장르의 개발에 노력하고 있으며, 아시아작곡가연맹(ACL),
21세기악회, 창악회 회원으로서도 활동 중이다.
현재,
경기대학교 다중매체영상학부 전자디지털음악전공 교수로 재직하고 있다.

After
graduating from Sung-Nam High School,
Composer Joopoong Kim, born in Seoul
in 1958, attended Hanyang University,
where he received his first Masters
of Music Composition degree in 1990.
In the summer of that same year,
Dr. Kim decided to continue his studies
in the United States at the University
of Missouri Kansas-City (UMKC). Majoring
in electronic music under UMKCs Dr.
Gerald Kemner, Dr. James Mobberley,
and Dr. Paul Ruddy, Dr. Kim received
his second Masters degree and a Doctoral
in music composition in December of
1998.
Dr.
Kim's final dissertation was entitled
Rally Round the Flag. This
piece was awarded many honors including
UMKC's Best Composition Award of 1998,
and also a performance at the 1st Hanminjok
Music Festival (1998). Also at
the 3rd Hanminjok Music Festival in
2000, Dr. Kim's second classical piece
Doomoolmuri was performed
after receiving special recognition
for exception composition. Since
his return to Korea in 1999, Dr. Kim
has continued to actively compose various
Configuration Music pieces, a genre
of contemporary music composition emphasized
by Dr. Kim. Dr. Kim is a member
of an electronic music organization
TROI-CA, and he also is a member of
a contemporary music organizations such
as the 21st Century Music, Vision-C,
ACL etc., through which he practices
and help develop aspects of modern music.
Currently,
Dr. Kim is a professor at Kyonggi University,
where he teaches Electronic and Digital
Music.
